the power of the "c" in resilience


Dr. Ginsburg, a child pediatrician and human development expert, proposes that there are 7 integral and interrelated components that make up being resilient. Consider the "C"s below and pause after each to self-assess your current levels. Self-awareness is a steppingstone toward resilience.


Competence - the ability to know how to handle stressful situations effectively

Confidence - the belief in one’s own abilities and is rooted in competence

Connection - close ties to friends, family, and community groups provide a stronger sense of security and sense of belonging

Character - being in touch with your values and having a strong sense of self-worth and confidence

Contribution - personally contributing to your community

Coping - have a wide repertoire of coping skills

Control- where possible have control over your decisions and actions
